Jõulu Jazz 2014 – Baltics largest Jazz Festival

 

The Baltics largest Jazz Festival „Jazz Kaar“ returns for its 3rd and final installment of the year Jõulu Jazz. Which in English simply means Christmas Jazz. Since its conception in 1990 the festival has seen many top jazz stars grace its stage. Such as Bobby McFerrin, Angie Stone and Chick Correa.

This years most well known act is Richard Bona. The grammy nominated musician comes to Jazz Kaar for the 4th time. Having previously performed in 2002, 2003 and 2011.

The Cameroonian born, US based singer songwriter and bass player. First rose to prominence as one of Jazz’s most exciting young bass players in the early 90’s. But it was not until 1999. That he blessed the world with his satin smooth vocals in his first solo album „Scenes from My Life“. To date Richard has released 7 solo albums.

He has collaberated with the likes of George Benson, Bobby McFerrin and John Legend. To name but a few. And will be accompanied on stage this year by Sylvain Luc on guitar and Ernesto Simpson on drums.

Another one to watch is rising British star Douglas Dare. Who performs in Estonia for the 1st time.

The singer\songwriter and pianist from Bridport. Has been likened to both Thom Yorke and James Blake. Due to his haunting vocals and elegant yet moody music.

 

The release of his first EP „Seven Hours“ in 2013 lead to an extensive tour with Ólafur Arnalds. And his debut album „Whelm“ was released in May this year to widespread acclaim.

Douglas performs at Kumu Auditoorium in Tallinn on the 14th of December at 20.00. Tickets can be bought online at Piletilevi.

Other notable acts at Jõulu Jazz include; The Spirit of Harlem Gospel featuring Aaron Morgan, Dawn of Midi as well as Tommy Smith & Brian Kellock.
